We are pleased that, following Hurricane Helene, Manatee County’s evacuation order has now been lifted. All buildings are now open and power and elevator service have been restored to all buildings. Assisted Living and Nursing Care residents are coming back to the community this afternoon.
Unfortunately, the Shores Building lobby floor was flooded due to a storm surge. Remediation efforts are already in progress. We will resume Dining Services on Saturday. Due to the water damage, the Shores Open Hearth will serve to-go orders only, through the weekend. Regular service will be provided at Café Riverview and Bistro 61.
Also please be aware that Manatee County has issued a water boil order. The municipal water system was inundated with salt water. The boil water order will be in effect until further notice. Bottled water will be available by Saturday morning.
Overall, we were pleased to have minimal impacts. We look forward to seeing everyone returned safely this afternoon.
Thank you to Mease Life, Morningside House of Sarasota, Westminster Lakeland, Westminster Suncoast and Westminster Towers for supporting our residents through the storm.
Our community has weathered the storm at our evacuation sites. Everyone is safe and doing well. Our first priority is always the safety and well-being of our team members and residents.
This afternoon, Nursing Care residents and Assisted Living from both neighborhoods are preparing to return home, along with our team members who worked throughout the storm. Thank you to the many communities who supported us with shelter from Hurricane Helene: Westminster Lakeland, Westminster Suncoast in St. Petersburg, Westminster Towers in Orlando, Mease Life in Dunedin and Morningside House of Sarasota.
For Independent Living residents we are continuing to assess damage and restore services. The City of Bradenton is operating under a boil water notice. Full power has not been restored to all areas, some buildings lack air conditioning, and elevators at the Shores Building are not operational. If you have a location to stay that is safe, we encourage you to remain there until all services have been restored.
We are writing now that Hurricane Helene has passed, to share what we will do to recover from the storm. This morning our leadership team is visiting communities that were evacuated, to assess damage from Helene. We will inspect each building to ensure its safety and evaluate what needs repair. Safety of residents and team members is our first priority after a severe storm.
We continue to follow the guidance of our county emergency management offices. This morning they have expressed concerns about dangerous road conditions and continued flooding.
After evacuation orders have been lifted and an assessment of damage is complete, we will make plans to bring residents back from their evacuation sites. Each community’s Executive Director or Administrator will provide detailed communications about this. We urge residents not to make any specific plans to return while we work as quickly as possible to restore safety.
Please join us in sharing thanks for our team members who stayed overnight or evacuated with residents to ensure we can continue to provide for them. Together, we are stronger than any storm!
In preparation for the arrival of Hurricane Helene we have completed our evacuation process, as ordered by the county. Assisted Living and Nursing Care residents are at evacuation sites in Dunedin, Lakeland, Orlando, Sarasota and Winter Park, where residents are safe and doing well.
Once the storm has passed and the county has determined that it is safe to do so, our team members will evaluate the safety of the community. Residents cannot return to the community until the Executive Director or Administrator has determined that it is safe to do so. We will be in contact with more information about this following the storm.

We continue to monitor the potential course of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine and to follow the guidance of the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service. At this time, it is unclear what the impact to Florida will be, or whether any of our communities will be impacted. Please know that we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure safety. We will provide updates as our plans develop and the storm’s track becomes clearer.
Our team members within each of our communities are working hard and following their emergency preparedness plans. As part of that plan, communities will be providing ongoing updates as appropriate. Please help us with this effort by calling only as needed.
